To promote the use of BigDIVA in the classroom, the Initiative for Digital Humanities, Media, and Culture (IDHMC) is offering two opportunities for TAMU Graduate Teaching Assistants (GATs) to introduce this research tool to their undergraduate students and receive an award.
The BigDIVA.org Classroom Promotion is to educate student researchers about the benefits and to encourage the integration of its use into undergraduate classrooms. To participate:
- Attend one of the BigDIVA demo presentations scheduled throughout the semester.
- Notify IDHMC of your class’ participation by providing your name, department, course title, and BigDIVA assignment by email, with BigDIVA Promotion as the subject, to idhmc@tamu.edu.
- Request that your students use BIgDIVA.org for a class project/paper. (For example, ask that at least one resource come from a BigDIVA.org search.
- Submit your students’ results by Thursday, December 7, 2017 to idhmc@tamu.edu.
- GATs will receive a Starbucks gift card for their participation. (TAMU funds were not used to purchase the gift cards.)
The BigDIVA.org Pedagogy Competition is for the most innovative assignment or assignment component to make use of BigDIVA. To participate:
- Attend one of the BigDIVA demo presentations scheduled throughout the semester.
- Notify IDHMC of your class assignment by providing your name, department, course title, and description of the assignment by email, with BigDIVA Pedagogy as the subject, to idhmc@tamu.edu.
- After the assignment is completed, submit your class syllabus, a student assessment of the BigDIVA assignment (provided), and a couple anonymous examples of student work by Thursday, December 7, 2017 to idhdmc@tamu.edu.
- Winner will receive a $500 research bursary.
